The current Jefferson City Administrator has been in the position for over one year and he reflects on his experiences.
City Administrator Scott Peterson officially took over for Mike Palmer as the city administrator on July 8, 2023 and says his first year has been great considering he was going to an area where he knew no one to begin with.
“And I really do want to express my thanks more than anything else to the mayor and city council, to the city staff, and really to all of the citizens in the community as a whole. (It’s) been extremely, extremely welcoming. And really, just can’t thank the community enough.”
Peterson points out one accomplishment that he oversaw in his first year was the city being designated as an Iowa Thriving Community from the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Iowa Finance Authority. He reminds everyone that this designation allowed housing developers to score additional points toward housing tax credits. Peterson feels another important aspect with the City Council is establishing a capital improvement plan.
“Again, maybe not the most glamorous things to see immediate results but it really lays the groundwork for some long term success, be able to get some projects done over the course of years, and be able to be very respectful of the public budget while doing it.”
Peterson appreciates the city staff and looks forward to more successful years ahead.
