Law enforcement are constantly monitoring impaired drivers and with that can come some heavy consequences.
Iowa State Patrol District 4 Resource Officer Trooper Shelby McCreedy tells Raccoon Valley Radio about one of the more common consequences of impaired driving.
“Obviously, there’s a major financial component. Fines are high. I think the average is about $10,000 from start to finish when it comes to an OWI (operating while intoxicated) conviction. And in addition to that, you are going to lose your driving privileges.”
McCreedy explains that while this consequence for impaired driving may seem dire, the greatest repercussion that one may face is the loss of life, whether it be someone else’s or their own. She adds that no matter how much money you make, or even if you have a good lawyer, you can’t go back and change the outcome of someone dying.
