The Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) will begin later this month, with Greenfield as the midday stop on day three of the ride.
With the amount of people that will be coming in, the City of Greenfield and Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency are seeking volunteers to help with a large-scale cleanup effort over 12 days, from July 10th to 22nd. Volunteers of all skill sets will be needed, as they would be working to help clear debris in and around Greenfield after the catastrophic tornado on May 21st.
Volunteer check-in is now at the temporary location of the Greenfield Fire Department just north of Cardinal Glass at 801 Northeast 6th Street. Check in for all volunteers will be at 8am every day, and if there are larger groups of volunteers, it is encouraged that they call or text the Emergency Operations Center phone at 913-961-4717 before they arrive. Much of the work will be physical, so volunteers are encouraged to bring safety equipment to help keep themselves safe while assisting with the clean up.
