A 4-19 regular season for the Greene County High School softball team isn’t what head coach Tom Kennedy, assistant coach JJ Hoyle, or any of the players were looking for after a 22-7 mark in 2023 and a trip to a Regional final. After graduating the five year battery of pitcher Emma Hoyle and catcher Emma Stream, plus other key players, expectations for this season weren’t as high. Then, off season knee injuries and subsequent surgeries happened for returning starters Chanlyn Cunningham and Becca Anderson, plus eighth grader Hannah Fouch.
The regular season is over and the postseason begins on July 11 at 7 p.m. in Monroe vs. Class 3A PCM, a team the Rams lost to twice in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The regional contest will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Coach Kennedy told Raccoon Valley Radio he thinks PCM has the best and deepest pitching staff in the Heart of Iowa, but he added if the Rams can put it all together for an entire game, the Rams have a chance.
