A free concert with a well-known traveling family band is coming to Jefferson on Sunday.

The Brown Family is from LeMars, Iowa and the award winning ensemble is going to perform a free show at the Greene County High School auditorium Sunday at 2pm. The show will be the “Americana Music and Patriotic Salute.” The event is sponsored by the Greene County Veterans Affairs Office and the Greene County Veterans Commission, which received a $10,000 grant from the local allocation from the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs, that is used for outreach events and training, as well as operational expenses for the county veterans affairs offices.

According to Greene County Veterans Affairs Director Michael Bierl, the Browns have been touring the country for 22 years, as well as internationally. Their accolades include the Top 10 Mixed Group of the Year and Top Horizon Group of the Year. The group has performed over 30 shows at the Americana Theatre in Branson, Missouri, Dollywood Theme Park stages and the Royal Carnival cruise ships.

Bierl says while the show is free for the over 300 Greene County veterans to attend, the public is also invited to see the performance for a free will donation that will go to future Brushy Creek Honor Flight participants from Greene County. Attendees are encouraged to use the south parking lot and the doors will open at 1:30pm on Sunday.
