The Mary J Barnett Memorial Library has finished its summer reading program.

Director Jerri Hawkins says that the program was a big hit this year, with several that participated. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio about their excitement for the program.

“Our summer reading program was awesome. This year, we had a great summer with the kids. It was for the month of June. We had three to four events every week. We had a total of 14 events and an average of 36 attendees to each event, which is awesome and we love it.”

Hawkins mentions that there were a total of over 507 attendees for the program, with participants reading for 28,752 minutes. She adds that they’re very thankful for the amazing presenters they had come to help with the different themes, including Iowa Department of Natural Resources Interpretive Naturalist and Educator Anne Riordan, and Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Summer Intern Skie Shull among the many others.
