A new furry friend has officially been added to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office announced on June 11th that they were bringing in a therapy dog for support in certain situations. After the organization publicly asked residents for suggested names, Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante says they took the 10 most popular ones, voted, and landed on the name Maverick.
He describes that the name “Dallas” was a common request, but decided not to go with that one because they didn’t want it to be too similar to the job title. Maverick has spent one week on the job, and so far, Infante highlights employees are happy.
“People are coming to work earlier, so they can see the dog. We’ve had the dog come over and hang out on our side of the building. People love Maverick, he’s so adorable.”
Infante comments that Maverick will eventually be utilized during interrogations but acknowledges that he will need to be trained up before then. Currently, Maverick is providing joy in the office and stays with Jailer Brandi Bever.
