It is the final two days of the special month-long display of a cultural icon that people can see in Jefferson.

Barbie By The Bells includes nearly 600 Barbie dolls on display from the 1980s to the early 2000s at the former Sensibly Chic building on the south side of the downtown square. Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich says the collection from Connie Hine has brought close to 2,000 visitors representing over 30 states.

“Which to me is just wild, just wild. And on one hand I’m not surprised, just I mean there’s a whole Barbis contingency that will travel. I know we’ve had over 30 states represented in-person, but we’ve heard from people as far as Alaska, both (west and east) coasts, all over the country, and there’s a couple of other countries signed in as well. So the following has been fun.”

Wetrich adds that with so many people coming to Jefferson, that has also led to a spike in shopping around the square and eating at restaurants. Barbie By The Bells is open today from 10am-5pm and tomorrow from noon-5pm, with admission $5 per person with all proceeds going to the Greene County Historical Society that allowed the collection to be put on display. The historical museum is also open those same hours and houses another 400 vintage Barbie dolls and admission is free, but a free will donation is encouraged.
