The Perry Chamber provides hope for individuals and families affected by the Tyson Foods closure today.

The organization made an announcement that the plant in Perry would be shutting down towards the end of June, with the last day being today. The Perry Chamber has held a couple of job fairs to make the transition as smooth as possible, but a few new options are available in the community.

Perry Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti reveals that both the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), the Iowa Workforce Development, and the Perry Public Library are working together to provide resources for Tyson employees. She explains that the three organizations have teamed up to offer services in Des Moines and Perry for the months of July and August.

“On Tuesdays in Des Moines, at the Iowa Workforce site, they will have a number of employers there every Tuesday into August. On Thursdays, at DMACC, from 10am to noon and then also 4:30-6:30(pm) from July 11th through August 1st, you can count on employers being there to connect with employees as well, and then sometimes on Saturday’s at the Perry Public Library.”

Pasutti notes that Perry’s DMACC VanKirk Academy, 1011 2nd Street, is always open for people to stop by with any questions.
