Greene County and Perry met in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball on Wednesday at the Perry Athletic Complex with the Jayettes winning, 12-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule. Originally scheduled for a JV/varsity twin bill, the action was reduced to one varsity game only.

Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams are now 4-17 and they complete HOIAC play at 3-11 while Perry went 6-8 in the league and is 7-16 overall.

The Rams had just three hits, all on the infield, and they came from freshman Bellah Johnson, sophomore Kaycee Pittman, and junior Paton Kokenge. Kokenge had the run batted in to score Johnson in the fifth inning.

Freshman Alaina Heard pitched the first 3-1/3 innings and took the loss. Junior Danielle Madsen pitched in relief.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released postseason pairings and the Rams will meet HOIAC rival PCM (Monroe) for a third time. The Class 3A regional first round contest is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 in Monroe. KG98 will broadcast the game and it will be streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
