The Perry Athletic Complex was the site of Wednesday night Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball between Greene County and the Blue Jays. Perry won the game 1-0 on an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth to improve to 9-14 on the season and 6-8 in league play. The Rams dropped all but one of their 17 games and are 1-12 in the HOIAC.

Junior Owen Myer went all seven innings on the hill for the Blue Jays, limiting the Rams to four hits, one walk, and one batter hit with a pitch. He fanned the Rams nine times and Perry was charged with two errors. Left-hander Crew Conner for the Rams allowed six hits and just the one unearned run with one walk and one strikeout as he threw six strong innings.

At the plate, Conner had a double and single, while junior Camden Jacobs singled, as did sophomore Adam Bills. On four different occasions the Rams had one or more runners on base in scoring position with less than two outs, but could not score.

The Rams stay on the road tonight for a conference makeup game in State Center vs. West Marshall, the top ranked team in Class 2A. Tonight’s contest will be the final HOIAC game for both teams.

Greene County found out its Class 3A postseason pairing and for the second year in a row, the Rams will travel to Alleman to face North Polk. The Comets are again one of the top 3A teams in Iowa after finishing second in the State Tournament in 2023. That District contest is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, July 12 on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The winner advances to the District title game on July 15.
