The Iowa Governor’s Volunteerism Award Ceremony was recently held at Ankeny High School this past Tuesday.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams was one of the recipients and he was nominated for the several ways he gives his time to the county. Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio he was honored to get an award like this and admits he does quite a bit in his free time, but his motivation is helping the youth of Greene County.

“I don’t have very many hobbies like a lot of other people do. I like to hunt and unfortunately most of the time hunting seasons that I hunt deer is closed, and I don’t watch much tv, so I just as well have something to do with my time and I choose to volunteer and help.”

Williams has been with the Jefferson Fire Department since 2004 and the chief since 2016. He also does active shooter training with teachers in schools, serves on the Greene County Fair Board, and is involved in severe weather events, tracking the storm’s path and helping clear debris when needed.
