The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball team won an exciting contest against Winterset Wednesday night thanks to a walk off from Lauren Hagedorn on Strikeout Cancer Night in Adel.

The Tigers beat the Huskies 6-5 in seven innings after both teams possessed the lead. ADM started the bottom of the first with three runs after Ellis Smith captured a two-run RBI to score Macy Person and Hagedorn. Cameran Smith scored the third run of the inning when Kaylee Smith hit her in as the Tigers led 3-0 after the first. Winterset in the second inning tallied all five of their runs as Brynn Acton and Molly Breeding smashed home runs. Acton’s scored three, while Molly’s was a solo to give the Huskies a 5-3 advantage after two.

The score remained until the fifth where ADM would score two more runs as a sacrifice fly from Madi James got Hagedorn and Kaylee Smith in to tie the game 5-5. A great defensive play from Ellis Smith in the top of the seventh kept the game tied, before Hagedorn led off the seventh with the solo walkoff home run. The Tigers’ Cameran Smith predicated the play before it happened.

“Everyone in the dugout after the game was like, ‘we knew Lauren (Hagedorn) was going to hit that home run, we’re not going to say it, but we all knew it.’ So just knowing that Lauren is able to go up there and finish the game for us, and even after that, Kaylee (Smith) and everyone else, they’re equally as able to do the same thing.”

The Huskies that scored included Acton, Molly Breeding, Zoey Breeding, Ashlynn Devine, and Mackenna Olson. For ADM, it was Hagedorn’s three runs that led the way, along with C. Smith, Macy Person, and Elliote Von Roden. Winterset’s starting pitcher Molly Breeding pitched 0+ innings, allowed one hit, three runs, walked two batters, while Brynn Acton went seven innings, allowed five hits, three runs, walked one, and struck out six. ADM’s Cameran Smith pitched six innings, allowed five hits, five runs, walked three batters, and had one strikeout.

The Tigers have won the last five and improve to 21-8 overall (11-2 inside the Raccoon River Conference) while Winterset drops to 18-14 overall (4-8 RRC). ADM turns around for another game tonight in Carlisle with first pitch at 7:15pm.
