Greene County and Saydel (Des Moines) met in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball last night at the City Field on E. Lincolnway in Jefferson. The visiting Eagles won by a score of 8-2 in a game heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Rams are 4-15, 3-10 while the Eagles improved to 10-3 in HOIAC play and 12-9 on the season

The Rams took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning, but then it was all Saydel as the Eagles scored four times in the fifth, twice in the sixth, and a final run in the seventh. Greene County managed just three hits, all singles on the infield, with two by sophomore Kaycee Pittman and one for freshman Alivya Smith. Junior Danielle Madsen drove in a run with a ground out.

The Eagles had nine hits and they took advantage of four errors by the Rams to score four unearned runs. Freshman Alaina Heard pitched the first six and one-third innings, then left after taking a hard hit batted ball in the midsection. Junior Danielle Madsen pitched the final two-thirds of an inning.

Winning pitcher, freshman Jenna Davidson, retired the last 12 Rams she faced to get the complete game victory.

Greene County remains at home tonight vs. non-conference opponent Southeast Valley (Gowrie).
