Severe thunderstorms hit the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area on Tuesday night.

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team took to the airwaves at 9pm as thunderstorm warnings were issued to Dallas County, Northern Guthrie County, and Southwestern Greene County. Thunderstorms were located near Guthrie Center and northeast of Audubon. The severe weather left Greene County at 9:40pm, but continued in Guthrie and Dallas counties.

Guthrie County News Director Marcus Mackey reported trees down in the Stuart area, and an inch and a quarter of rain came down. In the Perry community, reports from the Dallas County Emergency Management witnessed 45 mph wind gusts, with heavy rain and consistent lightning. The Dallas Center Fire Department shared that there were 30-40 mph winds in Dallas Center. The original warnings for Guthrie and Dallas counties were set for 10:15pm, but extended to 11pm. Guthrie County expired at 10:40pm followed by Dallas County’s expiration at 10:50pm.

There were four RVR employees, combined with Weatherology, the Dallas County Emergency Management, and the Dallas Center Fire Department assisted with the coverage.  Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage of severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings for Dallas, Greene and Guthrie counties until the storms move out of the coverage area or drop below severe levels.
