One state senator touches on something she wishes she could do more on outside the legislative session.

Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that once the legislative session is over, House Representatives and Senators can’t enact any new legislation. She mentions that in cases of natural disasters like the EF4 tornado that steamrolled through Greenfield, they can’t try to free up some money in the budget to aid the community.

Sinclair explains that that doesn’t stop Senators like herself, or Representatives like Ray Sorensen, a Greenfield native, from doing what they can. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio what the two of them have worked on to provide the assistance they can.

“We’ve been trying to connect those who are willing to help with those who need help. We’ve been trying to clear pathways and hurdles out of some of the bureaucracy that comes along with government, and really just do(ing) the things we can to facilitate getting back to normal. Rebuilding. Starting the town over. Just getting the debris away and structures that have been condemned down, and really start to rebuild a community that has banded together in such a great way.”

Sinclair adds that she and Sorensen have also been sharing pertinent information on their social media pages to spread that to more of the community, and that they’ve worked with individuals they have connections with to try and simplify and streamline as much as they can.
