The state of Iowa has seen recent hot temperatures, but the National Weather Service reveals that cooler weather will persist later in the week.

Meteorologist Craig Cogil tells Raccoon Valley Radio that temperatures today are in the low 90s across the state, but heat indexes range from 95-100°. Tomorrow’s temperatures will be in the mid-80s but will drop into the 70s on Thursday. Cogil describes that a cold front will be passing through the state later tonight, bringing possible storms, and a break from the heat.

“We will see cool air from the north filter into the state with the temperatures moderating down into the 70s to lower 80s extending in through the weekend.”

Cogil notes that the storms tonight will cause damaging winds and large hail with additional chances of severe weather Thursday night into Friday. He stresses that people need to be mindful of the weather but there’s no threat of anything too catastrophic like the storms in late April and early May.
