Greene County sends its high school baseball and softball teams east to West Marshall (State Center) today for JV and varsity baseball and softball. In addition to those two in-season sports, there are football workouts, strength and conditioning sessions, perhaps even volleyball, basketball, or other camps and activities kids are involved with. Dave Wright is the Greene County Activities Director and he talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about keeping the best interests of the student-athlete first.
“Those kids that are out for baseball and softball, it can get a little long for them, so we’ve got to make sure we’re take care of them as well and understand they are in-season. Years ago this wasn’t something that you did and the contact time and legality of that was a lot different 20 years ago than what it is now. We’re trying to make sure we balance that correctly so that kids don’t get burned out, so to speak.”
The Greene County teams were to have played softball and baseball last night vs. Manson-Northwest Webster in Manson, but those were postponed due to the weather forecast.
