Two recent Greene County High School graduates already have full time jobs, thanks to a program through the Greene County Career Academy.

According to the Greene County School District, Ethan Coil and Gavin Trecker have committed to working full time as welders with New Way Trucks in Scranton. Coil is currently enrolled in the apprenticeship program for over one year, through the partnership with the Greene County Career Academy and New Way Trucks. Coil spent the morning working at New Way and then attended classes at the high school in the afternoon. To complete the registered apprenticeship program, Coil will continue to meet the competencies and achieve a minimum of 1,000 hours.

Trecker has also been working at New Way for over one year. He took welding classes from former instructor Kirk Davis and has also learned additional welding skills from his dad, Dave Trecker, who is the assembly manager at New Way.

Greene County Superintendent Brett Abbotts talks about the Career Academy being an excellent conduit to great paying jobs in the workforce.

“Our Career Academy has really been essential in that continuation. We really see it truly is economic and workforce development that is happening right here. We’re been able to feed our local workforce, which is again has been a huge asset for us.”

The Career Academy offers not only advanced manufacturing-welding, but also agricultural information technology, computer science and programming, construction-building trades, culinary and hospitality, healthcare and paraeducator and teacher.
