The AC/GC Chargers started the week off with a road game against the Ogden Bulldogs.
The baseball teams started things off with a close game, with both teams scoring a run in the first inning, and neither scoring in the second. The Chargers allowed a run in the third, but picked one up in the fourth to keep things tied up, and then allowed the walk off score in the seventh inning to finish the game with the 3-2 loss.
Senior Tegan Slaybaugh took the mound for the Chargers, and dominated the entire game, only walking one runner, and having nine hits off him. Slaybaugh assisted on several plays, with a few grounders and bunts hit his way, then tossed to Ben Franzeen on first. Some notable plays include the stretch game on the third baseline, where the Chargers picked off the courtesy runner, and then the next play Tommy Skram let loose a cannon throw from centerfield to get the ball to Taytum Bates behind the plate just in time to tag Bulldogs third baseman Keaton Westberg out before he could pickup the run.
The softball team had a little bit of an easier time scoring, as they picked up on in the first and three in the second, before being held scoreless in the third. The team then picked up two more runs in the fourth and sixth innings, and tallied their final run in the seventh, while holding the Bulldogs scoreless, and were able to come home with the 9-0 victory.
Head Coach Eric Van Meter was impressed with the team effort from the girls all game, mentioning that pitcher Emerson Van Meter was only hit off of two to three times, and catcher Reagan Carney racked up the RBIs. He added that many of the Bulldog’s hits were short balls, ending up in the infield where the team made quick work and defended well.
The baseball team falls to 0-15 on the season, and the softball team moves to 8-8. The next game for the baseball team is tomorrow as they host Durant in varsity doubleheader action, then both teams are in action Thursday as they travel to Van Meter for more varsity doubleheader action.
