It’s been about a month since the May 21st tornado that tore through Greenfield, but things are starting to improve.

House Representative for District 23 and Greenfield Native Ray Sorensen says that what was left after the tornado came through was utter destruction. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that now that people have been able to work on clean up, things have begun to change.

“It’s gone from absolute chaos and destruction to an organized cleanup. Emergency crews are no longer picking up and disposing of storm debris or the demolition material in the right of way. But, it’s one of those things where it’s kind of concentrated now on house to house and what each owner or renter is doing with their stuff, and now it’s kind of moved into the insurance realm.”

Sorensen mentions that the biggest thing that could happen now for many in the community is for their insurance agencies to get back to them on what would be covered, so that individuals, businesses and organizations can finally begin to take the next steps in securing aid from The American Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He adds that what he believes has been the biggest help in getting things cleaned up has been the resiliency and camaraderie that the residents of the community have shown for each other.
