The AC/GC Chargers were in action last night, as they hosted the Pleasantville Trojans in doubleheader action.
The baseball team started things off close in game one, trailing 2-0 at the end of the first inning, 3-1 at the end of the second, and 3-2 by the end of the fourth inning. The Trojans came up with a big fifth inning, moving to a 7-2 lead, and in the sixth, junior Ben Franzeen cranked out a homerun, adding two more runs for AC/GC. No more scoring was done after that though, and the Chargers fell 7-4.
In the second game, things ended up a bit different, with the Chargers unable to hold back the Trojans, as they trailed 3-0 at the end of the first inning, 9-0 at the end of the second, and 10-1 at the end of the third. Both teams picked up another run in the fifth inning, and in the top of the sixth, Pleasantville grabbed two more runs while the Chargers were struck out twice and picked off at second base through fielder’s choice, and the game ended with the 13-2 loss. The Chargers are now 0-14 on the season.
The softball team had similar results for their games, with the first game being decided by one run. Neither team scored in the first inning, and both picked up a run in the second. Pleasantville continued to tack on a run per inning up to the fifth inning, and in the fourth the Chargers collected two of their own, ultimately falling 4-3. Senior Reagan Carney also hit a homer out of the park, helping the team increase their score.
In game two for the softball team, the Trojans struck first, going up 1-0. The Chargers slapped two runs on the board, taking the 2-1 lead. That’s where the scoring stopped though, as Pleasantville picked up two more runs in the third inning, and six in the fourth to take a 9-2 lead, and neither team was able to score the rest of the game. The Chargers are now 7-8 on the season.
