On June 1st, the Guthrie County Hospital Foundation held a 5K Color Run/Walk fundraiser.

Foundation Director Dennis Flannery says that originally the event was supposed to be used to raise money for the physical therapy department, but that after the May 21st Greenfield tornado, they decided to donate the funds raised to the Greater Greenfield Community Foundation for use in the future for recovery efforts. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio about some of the contestants for the race.

“We had a little over 50 participants in the 5K, and actually the winner of the 5K was a student from Nodaway Valley. We had four nurses from the surgical team down at Adair County Hospital (that) came up and participated with the group, and we had people as far away as Forrest City participating.”

Flannery mentions that they also held a health fair, and played some bingo. He adds that the Foundation also decided to pull from their reserves and match what was raised during the event, and donate those matched funds to the physical therapy department so that they were still serving the hospital as well. Flannery explains that they don’t have the total tabulated yet, but once they do, they’ll present a check to the Greater Greenfield Community Foundation.
