2024 Tower of Fame recipient Susan Kundrat
This year’s Bell Tower of Fame award winner is also on a tour to promote her recently published book.
Susan Kundrat, who is a 1984 Jefferson High School graduate, published “Eat Move Groove: Unlocking the Simple Steps to Lifelong Nutrition, Fitness and Wellness” and she says it is an easy guide to personal wellbeing. Being a dietitian and with a long career, Kundrat felt that much of what was available was negative and misinformation about weight loss and fitness.
“And so I thought, ‘Hey, I’ve been in this field for almost 40 years. Maybe I can write something that is easy to do, is simple, it’s true, it takes all the research but it doesn’t make you feel bad.’ It gives you a structure and a foundation without dieting or without feeling bad about yourself.”
Kundrat has had several successes in her career and is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and she gives this advice to people looking for their own career path.
“If you can find a way to mesh what you’re good at, what you’re interested in and passionate about, and what excites you, then I think that’s a really good mix. And even as a professor, I decided to retire early from full time teaching at (the University of Wisconsin-) Milwaukee because I had this itch to write this book. And so it allowed me the space and the time to write the book, and now we’re going to be on a book tour, and all these fun things are happening.”
Kundrat adds that having people that support your decisions, like her wife supporting her choices to get to write this book, is helpful in your career path as well. She is excited to work with youth and younger people, along with working with Gatorade to develop an online module of her book with sports nutrition and wellness. The book is available on Amazon.
