In a roller coaster two hour softball contest between the Dallas Center – Grimes Mustangs and Newton Cardinals, DCG was able to use six big runs in the 3rd inning, and create 15 hits on the night for a marathon 12-3 win over Newton, winning their 8th straight in the series during the process. DCG moves to 13-3 on the season while Newton drops to 7-6.
The game was one that DCG was able to dominate for four innings, putting up one in the first inning, two in the second, six in the third, and another in the 4th. Newton was able to get the game to go the full distance with two runs in the 5th inning and another in the 6th. DCG got their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
DCG was able to tally two home runs, one by senior Amelia Ehlert and the other by freshman Jenah Gray, with both hitting deep drives well beyond the center field fence.
DCG had freshman Tessa Jones throw three strong innings to start, senior Camila Rodriguez throw 3 innings in relief, and sophomore Kale Montag throw the final inning for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs will have their next game on Wednesday night when they take on the Oskaloosa Indians in a doubleheader. First pitch of that doubleheader will be happening at 5:30 pm.
