It was Bell Tower Festival, baseball, and softball, in Jefferson on Friday night. While the festivities around the square were taking place for the Festival, Allensworth Field and the City Field were the sites of Greene County baseball and softball vs. the Mustangs of PCM (Monroe). The visiting team won both games.

The baseball game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with PCM winning by a 6-3 final. The Mustangs led 2-0 after one inning, but three runs in the second frame put the Rams ahead. It was 3-3 after the fourth and three runs by the Mustangs in the fifth put them ahead to stay. PCM improved to 6-6 overall and 5-3 in the conference. Greene County fell to 0-10 and 0-8 in the league, and the Rams had just three hits, all singles. Noah Hinote, Crew Conner and Camden Jacobs each had a hit with a run batted in for Hinote and Jacobs. The Rams still haven’t had an extra base hit this season. Conner took the pitching loss as the left-hander went into the fifth inning. Teagan Chisholm and  Camden Jacobs pitched in relief.

In softball, PCM is ranked number 12 in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Mustangs are now 7-0 in the conference and they’ve lost just once this season in 10 games. The final was 14-1 in four innings by the 12-run rule. The loss was the seventh in its last eight games and the Rams are now 3-9 and 2-6. Greene County had four errors to just one for the Mustangs. Sara Morlan had a double and the lone RBI for the Rams while Alivya Smith singled, and those were the only two hits. Alaina Heard took the pitching loss. She gave up eight hits, four walks, and she hit four batters with pitches. Heard struck out three PCM batters.

The Greene County teams remain at home on Monday vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) for baseball and softball with the baseball game broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
