The AC/GC Chargers were on the road last night, and faced off against the Interstate 35 Roadrunners.

The Chargers softball team had been held scoreless in the four previous games against the Roadrunners before last night, but were able to break the streak. Despite a late game push and some strong defense, the Chargers were only able to score 1 run in the first game, and fell 7-1. In the second game, AC/GC took the lead in the first inning, with Reagan Carney’s line drive to third allowing Jenna Rowley to make the run to home plate.

With sophomore Camdyn Richter at the mound, the Roadrunners were held off until they tied the game in the bottom of the second. The Chargers were held scoreless during the second through sixth innings, while the Roadrunners put up their run in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth, another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning, despite some hard defensive plays from the Chargers. In the top of the seventh inning, Rowley was walked to first after ball number four, and didn’t have to wait long for Emerson Van Meter to smack a fly ball to center field for a double, allowing Rowley to make it home.

Van Meter came in and Jacie Baker came out as the courtesy runner, and the next batter up, Carney, followed Van Meter’s lead by sending a ground ball out to center field for her own double, allowing Baker to make it home as well. The Chargers unfortunately got their third out of the inning on the next batter, and the game was over with the 10-3 loss. The Chargers are now 6-4 on the season.

The Chargers baseball team came into the matchup 0-7, and after a 19-4 loss in the first game, and 13-3 loss in the second, headed home with an 0-9 record. The Chargers next game day is Monday, as the teams play host to the Woodward Granger Hawks. While the softball team will be playing at home, both baseball teams will be heading to Werner Park for their game, the home of the Omaha Storm Chasers. The Raccoon Valley Radio Sports Network will follow the baseball team to broadcast the game, with first pitch at 2pm.
