Last night the Jayettes took on the Trojans from West Marshall looking to wake up the bats after scoring just one run in their two losses Saturday. The game got off to a rough start for Perry and Maci Tunink as she allowed three consecutive doubles from the Trojans 3-4-5 hitters. Tunink got out of it but allowed another run in the top of the second after a leadoff walk came back to bite. She was doubled home by the nine-hole hitter Lily Zahnd just moments after she laid out to make a spectacular catch in right field taking one away from Tunink.
That would be all the runs that the Trojans would score on the evening but it would be all they would need because Aubree Greenwood of West Marshall was dealing. She only allowed two hits through three innings and the Jayettes weren’t able to get a runner into scoring position until the fifth.
The one bright spot for Perry was Emmalee Bell. She hit a tape measure shot that was an absolute no-doubter as soon as it took flight. Her home run made it a 3-1 ballgame which would be the final score.
Greenwood’s final line on the night was seven innings pitched allowing six hits in total and striking out eight. To her credit, Maci Tunink settled in nicely after a rocky start stifling what had been a powerful Trojan offense in the later innings. She ended up pitching the full seven striking out three and allowing six hits. She found trouble with her command issuing seven walks.
With this loss the Jayettes are in the midst of a five game losing streak in which their offense has struggled. Perry will travel to Greene County on Wednesday night for what feels like a must win game even though it’s early on in the season.
