The AC/GC Chargers traveled to take on one of their cross county rivals Monday night.
The Chargers were in Panora to face off against the Panthers, and both teams saw a bit of success. On the baseball diamond, AC/GC’s Tegan Slaybaugh got things started off by opening the game with a triple base hit, and then was brought home by center fielder Tommy Skram on his single base hit. Second baseman Noah Kading also put up a single base hit, allowing Skram to make it across home plate for run number two before it was the Panthers turn at the plate.
Pitcher Andrew Mahaffey and right fielder Colton Clark made quick work of the first three players in the Panorama lineup, before both teams were held scoreless in the second inning. The Chargers were scoreless again in the third, but the Panthers made it through a full rotation of their lineup, racking up three runs, with two coming off the home run hit by Braylon Dawes.
AC/GC was held scoreless once again in the third inning, while Panorama put up three more runs for a 6-3 lead going into the fifth. This is when the Chargers made a comeback and tied things up, with catcher Taytum Bates being hit by a pitch, Slaybaugh getting a single, and Skram also being hit by pitch, the bases were loaded. Third baseman Blaize Dorsey brought home Bates on a single, and second baseman Noah Kading brought home Slaybaugh and Skram on a deep hit double to right field. First baseman Ben Franzeen was thrown out on his deep shot to center field, but Kading was able to steal home on the play, putting up the fourth run of the inning.
The Panthers were held scoreless in the fifth, but the Chargers didn’t score in the sixth, where Panorama was able to rack up another three runs. AC/GC put up two more runs in the top of the seventh inning, but were unable to tie things up, and the team fell 9-8.
The softball team started out behind, with Panorama tallying a run in the first, and then both teams putting up two runs in the third for AC/GC to trail 3-2 going into the fourth. A run for the Chargers in inning four tied things up, and the team picked up momentum from there. In the fifth inning, AC/GC racked up another six runs while holding Panorama scoreless, then put up another four and allowing one in the sixth inning, and to finish things off, tacked on five more runs in the seventh while shutting out the Panthers for an 18-4 win for the Chargers. This comes off two wins in the tournament played on Saturday at West Central Valley, bringing the softball teams record to 5-2. The baseball team moves to 0-6 on the season.
