The US Senate passed a foreign aid bill in the last few weeks, and one country that is shown support is Taiwan.

US Senator Chuck Grassley mentions that other countries are included, like Ukraine and Israel, but that a good chunk of the funds also will help Taiwan try to keep China at bay. He says what the message of the bill is.

“It really just shows our support of Taiwan. The amount of money that’s in it for that is mostly to sell them military, I should say, war material that they need to defend themselves.”

Grassley explains he believes it shows China that with everything else going on, the United States hasn’t forgotten about Taiwan, and that it shows a sense of obligation to help them. He adds that he also believes that obligation doesn’t go so far as to require American soldiers, but using the military to discourage any invasion in the first place.
