Perry soccer won their quarterfinal match yesterday in the State Tournament. The Bluejays knocked off the 3 seeded Vikings from Decorah. Perry would surrender the first goal of the game in the 36th minute. The top goal scorer, Jeramiah Rediske, gave the Vikings the advantage. Perry would have multiple chances to score, but the equalizer wouldn’t come until the 76th minute. Jose Ortega scored his 5th goal of the season off a second chance shot by Cerna-Gomez. Regulation would close tied at 1-1. Two extra time periods would pass and the game remained 1-1. The Bluejays would win in PK’s 4-3. Perry put the pressure on by hitting their first four.
Perry wasn’t the only one to pull off the upset in the 2A bracket. The 7 seed Davenport Assumption took down the 2 seeded Glenwood, 4-0. That sets up a semifinal of Perry and Assumption Friday at 1P at Mediacom Stadium in Des Moines. The game will be on KDLS and streaming online at raccoonvalleyradio.com. The other side of the bracket features the top seed Gilbert facing Bishop Heelan. The games takes place Friday at 10A.
