The first home game of the 2024 softball season for the Greene County Rams didn’t turn out the way the Rams had hoped with Grand View Christian (Des Moines) winning the non-conference contest, 6-3. Both teams had two wins and four losses after the contest was over.

Greene County had six hits in the first two innings, but no runs. The Thunder led 1-0 after just two batters and they never trailed. Freshman Sara Morlan had three hits including a two-run homer in the third inning to get the Rams within 4-2. It was her first varsity home run. Junior Payton Kokenge had three singles and six other Rams had one hit apiece for 12 hits in all. Greene County left 10 runners on base. GVC had 10 hits and left six runners on base. Six Greene County errors didn’t help the cause for the home team.

Freshman Alaina Heard took the pitching loss. She allowed 10 hits, four walks and one hit batter with a pitch while recording seven strikeouts. Four Thunder runs were earned.

The Rams are home again tonight at the City Fields on E. Lincolnway vs. Nevada.
