Nice weather has been around for several weeks now, and will most likely continue through the summer months.
Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman says that the County-run campgrounds at Lenon Mills and Nations Bridge Parks have been open since about mid-April, but that activity will really ramp up now. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the Memorial Day Weekend is what they see as the unofficial start to summer.
“We had some really nice weather even before that, and so there was a lot of campers that were able to get out and do some camping, kind of all the way through. But yeah, Memorial Day Weekend was a busy weekend.”
Halterman also shares the variety of recreational opportunities provided at the parks. He mentions that fishing and kayaking are popular on the rivers that run through both parks, and that at Nations Bridge, there are also opportunities for trail hiking and volleyball. Another fun activity available to those at Nations Bridge is disc golf, as there is a small course throughout the grounds.
