State and local law enforcement are joining together with the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau in the latest traffic enforcement campaign.

Iowa State Patrol District 4 Resource Officer Shelby McCreedy says the statewide “Click It or Ticket It” initiative is going on now through June 2nd, with a focus on people wearing seat belts inside vehicles. She emphasizes that the ability to stay alive while driving is to do one simple thing: buckle your seatbelt.

“And we’re not just talking about following the legal perimeters and buckling in the front seat of the car, we’re talking about buckling up in the backseat of the car as well. Because there’s not a single, solitary study that exists anywhere that shows that you are less likely to die if you are unrestrained from the backseat versus the front seat.”

McCreedy adds this campaign is about changing everyone’s thought process about using a seatbelt as a habitat everytime someone gets inside a vehicle, no matter where they are in the vehicle, as a way to enforce saving everyone’s lives if they get into a crash.
