dcg-new-2

The Mustangs has three matchups yesterday in the singles category all at Johnston High School. DCG went 2-1 on the day with a couple of big wins coming against competitors from Waukee and Waukee Northwest.

The first matchup of the day was against Clinton and while the Mustangs got a couple of set wins, they weren’t able to top the River Queens as they fell 6-1 in the first match and then 6-3 in the second.

The next matchup was against Waukee. This time the Mustangs had a little bit better luck but it came in a very tough matchup as freshman Gwen Farely was able to take the victory 2-1 over Ashley Medina. The first set went to Medina  as she took it 6-3. Knowing she had to battle back Farely and Medina fought viscously for the second set. It ended 7-5 going in favor of the freshman Farely. The third and final set was a quick one as DCG collected the victory.

Farely was in the next matchup as well against Waukee Northwest. Farely was able to take the first set 6-2 and things were looking up for the Mustangs. Unfortunately for Farely, Mia Denes of the Wolves was able to get six consecutive points in the second set and shut down DCG completely. It would all come down to the third and final set of the day for the Mustangs and for Farely. The point and the set would go to Gwen Farely as she ended her day in dramatic fashion getting the big win.

This will mark the end of the girls tennis season so Gwen was able to end her and the Mustangs season on a high note.
