Six students from Perry High School recently obtained scholar awards for their accomplishments in the classroom.

According to the high school, Cate Erickson, Ayden Erickson, Mercedes Ponce, and Julie Maylum were given the United States Marines Corps (USMC) Scholar All-American Awards. According to Perry Girls Wrestling Coach TJ Maylum, the students attained a grade point average above 3.5 while being a varsity letter winner. TJ shares that he’s proud of these young ladies.

“Having four of those five (wrestlers) receive that award speaks to the type of athletes that we’re trying to keep in the sport of wrestling and the type of people that wrestling brings in.”

Additionally, Julie Maylum, Ponce, and Kain Killmer earned the Iowa Wrestling Coaches & Officials Association (IWCOA) Academic All-State Honors (GPA of 3.75-4+) and Keegan Snyder was a IWCOA Academic All-State Honorable Mention.
