The Jefferson Fire Department is currently underway with its annual fundraiser.

Fire Chief Jack Williams says they have four prizes that will be raffled off at the Jefferson Fire Department Breakfast on Saturday morning of Bell Tower Festival. The prizes include a $500 meat certificate and a $250 meat certificate to Murphy Farm Meats, an over $200 cooler, and a $250 family photo package from Emily Ostrander.

Williams describes how successful these raffles have been in the past with the proceeds typically going back to the fire department for equipment upgrades or replacements.

“In the past we usually raised $10,000-$13,000 that we’ve used to purchase a new Jaws (of Life) and other equipment within the fire department. And we’re hoping to get that same area so we can purchase a new confined space rescue kit.”

Williams explains that a confined space rescue kit is generally used to get people out of grain bins or collapsed trenches where there is construction work being done either below grade or underground. Williams appreciates the community support every year for this fundraiser.

“The support’s been wonderful. We wouldn’t have a lot of the equipment that we do have if it wasn’t for the citizens helping us with the fundraising, so that we’re able to purchase those things.”

Raffle tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from any fire fighter.
