Farming season is underway in the state of Iowa, and with large equipment on the roadways, a Dallas County Sheriff’s Office official shares the importance of safety measures to follow.

Sergeant Ray Dirksen tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Iowa is in the prime planting season with large machinery out near the roads. He says that the farming equipment is large in size and moves slower than most vehicles. Dirksen stresses the importance of giving enough room to bigger machines, especially when traveling on bridges.

“If we’re coming upon a bridge, if we’re following or meeting them, maybe slow down because they’re going to need the extra room to get across bridges or narrow roadways.”

Dirksen notes that planting season is coming to an end but farmers will stay in the field, and to give them respect by making space on the road.
