Greene County Public Health recently assisted in getting information to locations for young people to be informed of how to protect their bodies.

According to Greene County Public Health, a grant was received from the the Communities 4 Children Decategorization and Community Partnerships for Protecting Children Neighborhood/Community Network (DCAT/CPPC) mini-grant program that was used to buy several copies of the book, “ABC of Body Safety and Consent” by Jayneen Sanders.

Public Health Director Becky Wolf says this book does a great job of explaining to fourth graders in particular about age-appropriate communication about the appropriate boundaries and unhealthy touches for children. She points out the book is supported by school guidance counselors who have created curriculums on this topic. She adds the book lets kids know that they are in control of their bodies and find safe people to talk with and build confidence in.

The books were given to fourth graders at Greene County and Paton-Churdan School Districts, along with county libraries, daycare providers, regional medical clinics, law enforcement, and in-home visitations with the Healthy Opportunities for Parents to Experience Success (HOPES), and immunization clinics.
