Several students from the Guthrie County Area will be competing at a national and world level competition.
Central Iowa Student Anglers Coach and President Jeremy King says that three teams from the club performed well enough at the state competition at the end of April, and throughout the year, that they will be moving on to the Nationals/Worlds Tournament in June. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio a little about the area that the club covers.
“We’re kind of based out of Panora, but we have kids from Stuart to Johnston, Waukee areas. Obviously Panora, Guthrie Center, Adair, Casey, up to Jefferson is kind of our area with a lot of anglers actually from Adel as well. So we have a number of kids that are in this club, and every year for the last couple years, they’ve held the state championship like you would see for any other sporting event.”
King shares that at this year’s state competition, the championship trophy came home with Nolan Ponstein and Cole Carstens, both freshman at Panorama High School. The team of Gavin Lindstrom and Blake Schwartz also ranked highly, coming in fourth. This put both teams in the top 10 percent of the competition, and advanced them to the World and National High School Championship at Lake Hartwell in South Carolina from June 19th to 22nd. King adds that the third team that qualified didn’t make the top 10 percent at the state championship, but AJ Draper and Emmett King, both juniors at Panorama, were named Anglers of the Year for the Central Iowa Student Anglers, and qualified to compete as well.
