Greene County was looking for its first high school girls’ soccer victory this season when it made the long trip Southwest to Avoca on Monday night in a Class 1A regional first round contest vs. AHSTW. Coach Maribel Hernandez’ team had its closest match of the season, falling 4-3 in two overtimes. Now, 0-12, the Rams entered the contest with just one goal to their credit on the season, but senior Esther Van Horn scored three times, giving her all four goals the Rams scored in 2024. Foreign exchange student Sophie Johansen had one assist. The Rams led 3-2 at halftime. The Vikings improved to 2-9.

Coach Hernandez  told Raccoon Valley Radio this was the best game of the season “We were wining 3-2 at halftime and the game was tied within five minutes of the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lucy Vander Linden had 16 saves.
