Today is the first legal day for Iowa high school baseball teams to begin the 2024 season. Weather permitting, Coach Kyle Stalder’s Greene County Rams will play in Denison vs. Denison-Schleswig with the JV teams in action at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity to follow.
This marks the second season for Coach Stalder as head coach and it’s also season number two for his son, Bryce, a 2022 Greene County High School graduate, as the assistant coach. Bryce is a member of the Grand View University (Des Moines) baseball program. A number of baseball players are multi-sport athletes still involved in either soccer or track & field, so it’s possible the Rams could be without all its players tonight.
Wins were tough to come by for a very young Greene County team in 2023. The shared program between Greene County and Paton-Churdan puts the Rams in Class 3A for the postseason. They met Class 3A State Tournament runner-up North Polk in Alleman in the opening round a season ago.
