A representative from the Dallas County Health Department offers suggestions to treating mental health.

Community Health Educator Natalie Peters tells Raccoon Valley Radio that taking care of mental health is a case by case basis for different people. She recommends some tips for getting an appropriate amount of sleep, exercising, practicing stress management, or enjoying favorite hobbies. Peters notes that having poor mental health can lead to potential health problems down the road. She shares a few ways to start addressing mental health.

“It’s good to start by talking to someone you trust, so that can be a friend or family member, your primary care doctor, or a therapist. And then you can also try just implementing habits into your routine. Finding a physical activity that you just enjoy doing.”

Peters emphasizes that having good mental health will ultimately lead to a great quality of life. She adds that having a positive mindset will help people have a better outlook on their well-being.
