The West Central Valley FFA Chapter is conducting their annual plant sale.

The Chapter has been selling their plants for a few weeks so far, and will be ending the sale soon. Advisor Molly Dolch tells Raccoon Valley Radio how the idea for the plant sale came about.

“When I student taught at Montezuma, they had a huge plant sale that was really successful, and they used it as one of their major fundraisers, and I thought our students could use a program like that, and so we revamped the horticulture two class into a greenhouse management class to make it happen.”

West Central Valley student Rylee Saffeels mentions how they choose the plants they grow.

“So the process of choosing the ones we want to grow kind of goes off each year, I think of, like, the plants that sold the most or how they kind of grow. And we do annuals so they won’t grow back next year. But what we do is every day we go out and we either water everything or we go over and we look at the plants that need water, and that’s called spot watering, and we water them that way.”

West Central Valley student Tyler Abbott explains why he wanted to be part of the class that helps run the greenhouse and plant sale.

“I did this because I really just wanted to gain some experience with plants, and the greenhouse is a good place to start learning that.”

Those interested in purchasing plants from the West Central Valley FFA can visit the greenhouse from 3:30-6pm during the week, and from 9am to noon on Saturdays.
