The Adair – Casey (AC) / Guthrie Center (GC) School Districts were able to receive some grant funding.
AC/GC Superintendent Josh Rasmussen says that both districts were awarded the Learning Beyond the Bell Grant from the Iowa Department of Education. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio what they plan to use that funding for.
“We went ahead and applied, and we’re going to receive about $18,000, I think, for both districts is what it amounted to. And it’s going to allow us to hold some summer school classes at both the AC Elementary and GC Elementary. We’re going to be able to hire up to four teachers, four qualified teachers to help out with that program, along with provide snacks for that time that they are there and transportation. So we’ll be able to transport those kids to and from class as well.”
Rasmussen mentions that the principals at each elementary building are working to get schedules made for the summer school courses. He adds that they are currently looking at having four weeks of four day classes.
