Another long awaited project in Jefferson will be a welcomed addition.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Denny Hammen says they are inching closer to have the 24/7 access completed. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio there is one motion sensor that needs to be installed to allow Greene County Community Center members who are 19 and older to leave when the building is closed to the public.

Hammen notes once the 24/7 access is in place, members are to use their cards to be able to enter the facility. He says members that qualify can use the gym, as well as the walking track and weight and exercise equipment on the second floor, and the shower areas. He points out what won’t be accessible is either of the meeting rooms or the office. Hammen explains another aspect that was added with the 24/7 access.

“Emphasize as well that along with this upgrade, we did improve the security in the building. So we do have cameras in all of the hallways and upstairs and main areas because we thought that probably the public knowing there’s increased security might help keep people from abusing the system as well.”

The original intention for the 24/7 access is for the individuals that want to exercise but can’t make it to the community center until after it closes. Hammen anticipates the opening of the 24/7 access is June 1st. Once that happens, Hammen says the new hours that the community center will be open to the public will be Monday through Friday from 6am-8pm, Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from noon-6pm.
