Attention to motorists in Jefferson, several youngsters will be participating in National Bike to School Day on Wednesday.

Organizer Sean Thompson tells Raccoon Valley Radio kindergarten through fourth graders will be heading to the elementary school from the Greene County Extension Office at 7:30am on Wednesday. Thompson encourages the parents of those students and the public to join them as they will go from the Extension Office on Washington Street to Chestnut Street, then to State Street and they will turn south on Wilson Avenue. The cyclists will then head east on Lincoln Way to the Raccoon River Valley Trail to the elementary school.

Thompson points out that there will be Jefferson Kiwanis Club volunteers helping to control traffic at major intersections along the route and motorists are to use caution when encountering children on their bikes that morning.

Thompson adds the reasons why he continues this event into its fourth year is because he believes it’s a great way for the students to get exercise and to think of using their bikes as a mode of transportation.
