Iowa Senator Sarah Trone-Garriott explains that now is the time to reach out to local legislators about important issues.

Trone-Garriott tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the 2024 legislative session has concluded, meaning any remaining active bills within the last two years will reset next year. She points out that 2024 is an election year highlighting that there’s going to be lots of changes with lawmakers retiring, and potentially new candidates. Trone-Garriott confirms that the 91st General Assembly will begin January of 2025, and stresses that the summer is the perfect opportunity to contact legislators.

“It’s a good time in the summer to reach out to your legislators and let them know what matters to you. If there’s something they did that you want them to know was a good thing, tell them that. If there’s something they worked on that you want them to change or redo or fix, that’s important to hear too. And if there’s something they didn’t get to, we need to hear that.”

She mentions that lawmakers will review topics from the previous year during the new general assembly, so reaching out during the summer will help give them an idea of areas that need to be addressed.
