The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is bringing in two new deputies.
The Sheriff’s Office recently announced the additions of Gabe Godwin and Derek Holmes. According to Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante, both men have been sent off to the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy where they will spend 16 weeks training before returning to Dallas County for field training. Infante tells Raccoon Valley Radio that his office is excited for the new hires, but is still looking for more.
“Law enforcement jobs are down. Everybody’s got the same problem. We are in the middle of the hiring process right now to hire more. I’ve hired three in the last month, including those two, and I’m still short two.”
Infante outlines the hiring process with applicants taking a written test followed by a physical test before interviews can take place. He notes that it takes several months to hire new deputies, which presents a challenge.
