Greene Co Sheriff Jack Williams
On Saturday Greene County residents are encouraged to hand over any unused or expired prescription drugs to law enforcement.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says Saturday is National Drug Take Back Day with the Drug Enforcement Agency where people can drop off prescription medications at the Greene County Law Enforcement Center at the county jail. Williams points out they will accept most items, but not needles or aerosols.
“They can bring any prescription drugs, even controlled substances if they want to stop using them, bring them and drop off at the front counter, there’s no questions asked. You just drop them off and we take them and get them destroyed.”
Williams adds that they collect an average of 200 pounds of prescription drugs per year. He says they will take prescription drugs all year round and there is a secured drop off bin that people can use at the Greene County Medical Center as well.
